Jimmy Nolan today was named varsity football head coach at Fountain Valley. 

Nolan has coached Lakewood the past two seasons. Lakewood was 10-12 overall and 9-3 in the Moore League during his tenure during which the Lancers qualified for the CIF-Southern Section Pac-5 Division playoffs both years. They lost to Mater Dei, 66-14, in the Pac-5 first round in 2015. 

He also has been varsity head coach at Laguna Beach and at Cantwell Sacred Heart of Montebello. 

The Fountain Valley head coaching positions has been vacated twice in six months. Ray Fenton, who coached Fountain Valley for three seasons, left to take the head coaching job at Los Alamitos. Justin Schaeffer left Murrieta Mesa to replace Fenton, but when Fountain Valley and Schaeffer could not come to agreement on his schedule and other details Schaeffer departed from Fountain Valley. 

Fountain Valley was 7-4 overall and 4-1 in the Sunset League in 2015. The Barons lost to Murrieta Valley, 48-7, in the first round of the West Valley Division playoffs. 

Nolan played football at Mater Dei and Utah. He was an assistant coach at Mater Dei and Fountain Valley.
