Fountain Valley appears to have found a football coach … again.

Lakewood boys athletic director Christopher Murphy said Lancers football coach Jimmy Nolan has accepted the opening at Fountain Valley.

“He was offered the position at Fountain Valley and he took it,” Murphy said of Nolan on Friday night.

Nolan didn’t respond to a text message earlier Friday seeking comment but told the Long Beach Gazettes that the Fountain Valley position was better and closer for his family. The Gazettes reported that Fountain Valley told Nolan on Friday morning that it is in the process of hiring him.

His speed training business, SpeedKillsUSA, lists its office in Huntington Beach.

The well-traveled coach could end a trying offseason for Fountain Valley. Coach Ray Fenton resigned after three seasons to accept the Los Alamitos position. The Barons hired Justin Schaeffer from Murrieta Mesa in March but he resigned in May.

Fountain Valley finished second in the Sunset League last season and lost to Murrieta Valley, 48-7, in the first round of the CIF-SS West Valley playoffs.

Nolan was hired at Lakewood before the 2014 season. He played at Mater Dei and Utah and has served as an assistant at Fountain Valley, Mater Dei and head coach at Laguna Beach, Cantwell Sacred Heart, Compton Centennial and Carson.
