Junior Casey Cunningham won two events Saturday to help the Saddleback Valley Christian girls swimming team capture the inaugural Freelance Invitational at Capistrano Valley.

Cunningham touched first in the 200 (1 minute, 58.07 seconds) and 500-yard (5:09.23) freestyles. Both times were well under the CIF Division 3 automatic qualifying standards.

Cunningham was the runner-up in both races last season at the CIF Division 3 finals.

The Warriors, who moved to freelance status this spring, also swept all three relays and crowned two other individual champions. Freshman Emi Brehm took the 50 free (26.02) while Kylie Owen claimed the 100 free (58.63).

Brehm edged Connelly’s Mireille Codjia, who touched second in 26.14.

Cunningham and Owen teamed with Emily Brent and Jordan Owen to capture the 400 free relay in 3:54.87.

Saddleback Valley Christian scored 491 points to outdistance Division 4 Maranatha of Pasadena at 391.

Maranatha’s boys edged Saddleback Valley Christian, 410-400, for the other team title.

The Warriors’ 200 medley relay of Aaron Ewry, Rotimi Kirya, Jackson Wood and Cole Brehm won in 1:50.71.
