After another CIF State wrestling tournament, Valencia’s Gabby Garcia finds herself sitting at the top of her weight class.

Garcia entered this year’s tournament as third seed at 126 pounds. She won two matches by fall on the first day and wrapped up her third consecutive CIF State title with a 4-2 victory over Maddy Tung (Santa Monica) in the semifinals and then defeated Kennedy’s Miyuki Pugrad, 3-1 in the finals.

Garcia also has state titles at 108 pounds (2013) and last year at 121 pounds. Next year, Garcia will have an opportunity to join Alyssa La Francis (fdgfd) as the only four-time girls CIF state champion.

LaFrancis captured her fourth CIF State title this year.

Canyon’s Aleeah Gould (106) finished second at 106 pounds. Gould advanced to the finals with a 7-2 victory over Angelica Llanes of Mira Monte in the finals. Gould then dropped a 5-1 decision to Sariyah Jones of Enochs in the finals.

Godinez’s Diana Hernandez finished eighth at 121 pounds.

Mater Dei’s Julie Calzada finished sixth at 137 pounds. Calzada lost her first match of the tournament, but regrouped for a 4-2 run in the consolation bracket.

Magnolia’s Arlene Hernandez (150) and Buena Park’s Adrianna Escobedo (143) placed fourth and seventh, respectively.
