IRVINE – A week after a big win over Segerstrom in its opener, University had little trouble beating Littlerock, 37-0, in a nonleague game Friday at University High.

The Trojans (2-0) have outscored their two opponents, 73-6.

“I’ve said from the start that we are going to be better this year,” Coach Mark Cunningham said. “We have some depth, we have pretty good speed and we have better athletes.”

University scored four touchdowns in its first 11 offensive plays against Littlerock (0-2). Matt Abellaneda did much of the damage. He took a pitch and ran un-touched around the right side for a 12-yard touchdown on Uni’s third play, then capped the scoring in the first quarter with a 6-yard run that put University ahead, 27-0.

Abellaneda, who finished with 98 yards rushing on just seven carries, also had a 9-yard touchdown run midway through the second quarter to make it 34-0.

“He is a three-year starter,” Cunningham said of the speedy 5-5, 140-pound Abellaneda. “He is probably the same size as he was as a sophomore. But he is just a hard-nosed football player.”

Bellal Mohebi added an 11-yard TD run, Neil Boudreau completed 3 of 5 passes for 71 yards and a TD and Michael Jung had 71 receiving yards and a TD.
