TUSTIN – Tustin got its 2015 season off to a dominating start Friday night at home.
The Tillers scored five touchdowns in the first quarter, the first two on their opening two offensive plays, and rolled to a 74-14 nonleague victory over Dana Hills.
“I told our guys that I wanted a quick start,” Tustin coach Winter Welz said. “I wanted to get out of the gates so it was nice to see that happen.
“We were just really ready to play a game. Our kids were chomping at the bit to play another team.”
A lot of Tustin players had big nights, but senior running back Tyler Noble was at the top.
He finished with five touchdowns, including a 25-yard scoring run on Tustin’s first play from scrimmage. Noble had a 44-yard touchdown run that gave Tustin a 33-0 lead. He later caught a 1-yard TD pass from quarterback Alema Pilimai. And Noble closed out the first half with a 96-yard kickoff return for a score.
Noble, who also intercepted a pass on defense, capped his huge offensive night with a 42-yard touchdown run with 10:15 left in the third quarter that gave Tustin a 68-7 advantage.
He ended up with 132 yards rushing on six carries.
“I didn’t even realize that he had five touchdowns,” Welz said. “It seemed like every time he touched the ball he scored a touchdown.
“He is a legitimate Division 1 player. He has the speed and he showcased it tonight.”
Pilimai completed six of eight passes for 125 yards and three touchdowns and also rushed for a score.
De Von Anderson caught two touchdown passes and had 51 yards receiving. Jonathan Di Maio had two receptions for 57 yards and a score for Tustin.
Dana Hills got on the board with 1:40 left in the first half when David Aronne ran in from 7 yards. It made the score 54-7. . Corey Cisowski threw for 69 yards and one TD for Dana Hills.
