BOYS SOCCER

For the second year in a row, Brea Olinda and Sunny Hills played for the championship of the Wildcat Cup tournament.

Both times, the Lancers left with the first-place trophy.

On Friday night, the Lancers extended their winning streak against the Wildcats when Randy Perez and Colton Wert each scored a goal to lead the defending CIF-SS Division 2 champions to a 2-0 victory.

This was the Wildcats’ fifth trip to the finals, the most in the tournament’s history. Brea, though, has only won the Wildcat Cup once.

“It is great for us to win the tournament for a second year in a row, especially after the previous rough week for us,” Sunny Hills coach Mike Schade said. “We are working hard to improve and the tournament win is evidence of that.”

The Lancers scored 15 minutes into the championship match when Herminio Padilla slotted the ball to the unmarked Perez, who scored his third goal of the tournament. Padilla picked up his sixth assist of the Wildcat Cup.

In the second half, the Lancers launched a long throw into the box. Jackson Swindle, Brea’s goalkeeper, turned away the first Sunny Hills shot, but the rebound went to Wert, who set the final margin.
