ANAHEIM – Jakeishya Le didn’t have a good answer for how she has been able to do it, other than saying she has found her rhythm. She seemed surprised when she was reminded of her scores the last couple of weeks.
That’s understandable, given that the Mater Dei senior is on the kind of roll rarely seen in girls golf.
On Wednesday at Dad Miller Golf Course, Le posted her third consecutive round in the 60s, shooting a 5-under-par 66 to win the Trinity League championship by seven strokes with a 9-under-par 132.
Dating back to her 6-under 68 in the Ayala Fall Classic earlier this month, Le is 19-under par for her last four rounds.
“It feels really good. I am really happy with what I did today,” said Le, who finished the 36-hole tournament with 12 birdies.
“Hopefully, I can keep up with what I am doing right now. This is encouraging.”
On Monday, Le will tee off in the CIF-SS Southern Regional Individual championship at Dad Miller, the first step toward qualifying for the state championship.
Le opened the tournament Tuesday with a 4-under-par 66 at Costa Mesa Country Club and shared the first-round lead with her teammate, junior Kristy Harada, who carded a 73 on Wednesday to finish second with a 2-under 139.
It was a tournament of firsts for Harada. The 66 was Harada’s lowest 18-hole score, and she had eight birdies during the tournament, a personal best.
She also had never played in the final group on the second day until Wednesday.
Catharine Roddy (Santa Margarita), Rylie Edwards (Santa Margarita), Caroline Cantlay (Rosary), Macee Aguirre (Mater Dei), Halie Lasken (JSerra), Ashley Nguyen (Mater Dei) and Lauren Labow (Rosary) also made the cut for Monday’s CIF-SS regional.
