For the second consecutive year, the Mater Dei girls volleyball team proved to be the best of the field at the California Challenge, hosted by Torrey Pines.
The Monarchs swept Trinity League rival Santa Margarita, 25-19, 25-22 in the finals Saturday. Alyse Ford, who returned to the court yesterday after an extended sit-out period, was selected tournament MVP.
Payton Chang and Brittany Welsh earned all-tournament honors for the Monarchs. Jane Horner and Devon Chang were all-tournament selections for the Eagles.
This was the third match this year between the Monarchs and Eagles. The teams will meet again Oct. 22 at Mater Dei.
