Senior running back Garrett Cox rushed for 179 yards on seven carries and scored four touchdowns to lead Crean Lutheran to a 55-15 win over Flintridge Prep of La Canada in a nonleague matchup Friday at Crean Lutheran.

Three of Cox’s touchdowns came on long runs – 34, 36 and 55 yards. He has 16 touchdowns this season, and he has been a big part of a five-game winning streak for the Saints (6-2).

Cox wasn’t the only player who had success on the ground against the Rebels (2-5). Crean Lutheran’s run-dominant offense produced 385 yards and seven touchdowns.

The Saints scored on their first four possessions.

Coach Brett Mertens was pleased with his team’s performance.

“We came out really well in the first quarter,” Mertens said. “Overall we played really well.”

Mertens praised his team’s offensive line, which routinely opened large holes and helped the Saints average 27.1 yards on their rushing touchdowns.

The Saints have a bye next week and return to Academy League play on Oct. 29 against St. Margaret’s.
