COSTA MESA – Irvine quarterback Mikey Filia passed for 213 yards and three touchdowns, and Jonathan Garcia was on the receiving end for 159 of those yards and all three scores to lead the Vaqueros to a 48-35 nonleague victory over Estancia on Friday night at Estancia High.

Filia completed 7 for 11 attempts for the Vaqueros (3-1), who opened a 20-0 lead in the first quarter. Irvine marched 63 yards on their first drive and capped it with a 4-yard touchdown run from running back Brent Miller.

Filia found Garcia for a 61-yard touchdown pass that made it 13-0. Shortly after, cornerback Noah Miller intercepted a pass and returned it 34 yards for a touchdown and a 20-0 lead after one quarter.

Estancia (1-2) found the end zone when Dalton O’Daily caught a 25-yard touchdown on a halfback pass from running back Ronnie Urquiza. On Eagles’ next drive, Urquiza rushed for a touchdown with 8:39 left in the second quarter to cut the lead to 20-14. Filia’s second and third touchdown passes came after halftime and helped Irvine pull away.

Urquiza led Estancia with 128 yards on 21 carries.
