LA HABRA – Sonora’s superior speed devastated Saddleback, 78-19, in a nonleague game Friday night at La Habra High.

The Raiders (3-0) scored every way possible with the exception of a safety. Halfback Jacob Fimbres scored on touchdown runs of 1 and 18 yards and returned a kick 99 yards for a touchdown. Quarterback Cole McDonald had touchdown runs of 69 and 35 yards and threw a 39-yard touchdown pass to Aashad Womack. Jonathan Rodriguez had a 79-yard punt return for a touchdown, and Miguel Valtierra kicked a 27-yard field goal.

Sonora led, 64-7, at halftime and Coach Paul Chiotti did not play any of his starters in the second half. Backup quarterback Carlos Soto had TD runs of 14 and 62 yards, and halfback Carlos Urias added a 27-yard touchdown run. Urias led the team with 85 yards on 10 carries.

“We wanted our kids to come out and play fast and put them away early,” Chiotti said. “We executed and made big plays on offense and special teams. Our kids got after it. We tried to spread the ball around and I’m proud of the way our backups played.”

Bryan Salcido got Saddleback (1-2) on the board with an 89-yard kickoff return in the second quarter. He also had a 70-yard touchdown reception from quarterback Johnny Rojas.
