TEMECULA – El Toro had no answer for Demetric Felton on Friday night, as it was defeated by Great Oak of Temecula, 27-24, in the second round of the CIF-SS West Valley Division playoffs.

Felton rushed for 244 yards on 24 carries and scored a pair of touchdowns, advancing the Wolfpack to their first semifinal. They will meet Mission Viejo next Friday.

“We played a team that was better than us tonight, bottom line,” El Toro coach Robert Frith said. “They had some outstanding players, made the plays, and in the end we were outplayed.”

Great Oak (10-2) got the scoring started with a 13-play, 71-yard drive to open the game.

The Wolfpack used nearly six minutes of clock with the drive, converting three third-down plays, which included the scoring play when a scrambling Laquan Williams found Logan Morrison for a 9-yard touchdown pass.

Great Oak got a 29-yard field goal from Jake Martin to take a 10-0 lead.

“We talked about getting started fast,” Great Oak coach Robbie Robinson said. “And for us to come out and have that start was amazing.”

El Toro (8-4) scored on a field goal early in the second, but it was two key plays from Great Oak’s Felton that would highlight the quarter.

Felton found the end zone on the first play of a Great Oak possession that started on the 50. Two minutes later, with the exact same play, Felton scored on a 74-yard run.

El Toro scored before the break to cut the lead to 14, and then scored a touchdown with 34 seconds remaining in the third quarter to draw within 24-17.

Martin secured the game for the Wolfpack with a 35-yard field goal with 2:37 left to play.

El Toro added a touchdown with a little over a minute to play in the game.

El Toro QB Trey Tinsley completed 23 of 47 passes for 320 yards with two TDs, while receiver Colin Kentros made 10 receptions for 188 yards. Issac Furnari had 81 yards rushing.
