The good news for Newport Harbor’s boys water polo team is that it has played several good teams close.

The challenging news for the Sailors is that if they start to win the close games, they’ll be a scary team.

Newport Harbor dropped its seventh one-goal decision Wednesday as visiting Loyola of Los Angeles collected an 11-10 victory in overtime.

The score was tied, 8-8, after regulation, and the Cubs (10-2), ranked third in Division 1, outscored the No. 9 Sailors, 3-2, in the two three-minute overtimes.

Clay Davison and Hannes Daube each scored three goals for the Sailors (4-10).

In the South Coast League:

No. 7 Dana Hills 16, Tesoro 13: Marko Asic and Bennett Williams each had four goals and three assists to lead the visiting Dolphins (7-7, 2-0), who took a 13-6 lead into the fourth. Kai Hanson and Nick Jansen each added three goals for Dana Hills.

In the Orange Coast League:

Godinez 19, Saddleback 7: Jose Alvarez, Francisco Arroyo, Brian Han and Enrique Roman each scored four goals for the visiting Grizzlies (8-5, 1-0).
