LONG BEACH – When things are going well, not even a fourth-and-10 poses much of a challenge.

That was the case for Jack Telenko and the Los Alamitos offense early in Thursday’s nonleague game against Lakewood.

The Griffins’ offense was hit with a delay of game on their own 30. On the next play, needing 10 yards for a first down, Telenko hooked up with Mike Magana for a 23-yard gain to the Lancers’ 12.

Telenko would eventually cap the drive with a 1-yard touchdown run, and the eighth-ranked Griffins were off and running, scoring on five of their seven first-half possessions en route to a 53-16 victory at Veterans Stadium over the Lancers.

“All of our passing game worked and we had a great game plan coming in, throw the ball down field a little bit,” Telenko said. “Our (offensive) line did great the entire night.”

Telenko passed for three touchdowns, two to Jacob Gasser and another to Holden Edmondson. The Griffins (2-0) also rushed for four touchdowns, two from Keynin Charbonnet, one from Telenko and even defensive end Will Armstrong got in on the fun, scoring from 3 yards out.

The Griffins scored on four possessions in the fourth quarter.

“I really think we have a special group here,” Telenko said. “We have a lot of guys willing to play their heart out. We really could be a great offensive team.”

Telenko did a great job spreading the ball around, connecting with eight different receivers.

“Gasser is a two-year starter,” Telenko said. “He is one of my main targets, but I’m trying to get everybody the ball, spread the ball around.”

Gasser had six receptions for 110 yards along with his two touchdowns.

Defensively, the Griffins didn’t look too bad either, making the night miserable for the Lakewood offense. Armstrong had at least two sacks and a handful of tackles for losses. Joey Noble was also in on the fun, recording a couple of sacks.

Izayah Mora had an interception.

Lakewood (0-3) scored its first points early in the second quarter, but the Griffins would respond with 17 points to take a 31-9 lead into halftime.

Los Alamitos will host La Habra next week.
