HUNTINGTON BEACH – Jack Telenko probably feels like a little kid on Christmas morning when he lines up as the Los Alamitos quarterback and takes a look at all the offensive contributors in the backfield and at wide receiver.

“Everyone can play and can perform,” he said.

Friday night was just another example of the Griffins’ riches.

The eighth-ranked Griffins (8-1, 4-0) rushed for six touchdowns, three by Telenko and he passed for 181 yards and another touchdown on the way to a 49-13 road victory over Huntington Beach (2-7, 1-3).

“It was not as easy at it looked,” Los Alamitos coach John Barnes said. “But offensively, we just could move the football. We had a lot for them, when they stopped something, we found something else.”

The Griffins punted twice in the game and didn’t commit a turnover. The other possessions ended in touchdowns.

“That’s what we want,” Barnes said. “That’s what it takes. If you have one guy carrying the ball or one guy catching it, they (the opposition) can stop you. The balance has been beautiful. Our split ends can be tight ends … it has been perfect.”

Denzal Brantley rushed for 159 yards and two touchdowns. He opened the game with a 73-yard touchdown run, but it was called back because of a penalty.

Telenko scored on runs of 22, 11 and 21. Schuyler Whitehead had the other rushing touchdown. Three players (Jacob Gasser, Joe Wysocki and Matt Nelson) had at least 50 yards receiving.

“He played his butt off,” Barnes said of Telenko. “Our offensive line blocked great. We have a stable of backs; they all can run and we have guys who can catch. It was a good team win.”

The Griffins are averaging 48.5 points per game in league, which started right after a close loss to L.A. City Section power Narbonne. The key, according to Telenko, has been letting go of that loss and focusing on what’s ahead.

“We almost just forgot about Narbonne,” he said. “We can’t keep it in our heads too long or it will dwell on us.”

After Huntington Beach scored to trim Los Al’s lead to 7-6 in the first quarter, the Griffins scored the next 28 points to take a 35-6 lead into the fourth quarter.

The Griffins will face Edison next week for the Sunset League title. Both teams are 4-0. The key, according to Telenko, will be sticking with the recipe for success.

“Execution, teamwork and just play the perfect game and not making any mistakes,” he said.

The Oilers conclude their regular season next week against last-place Marina.
