OCVarsity’s breakdown and prediction for Division 7 of the CIF-SS football playoffs.

DIVISION 7

Top seeded teams

1. Pacifica/Oxnard (8-2)

2. El Segundo (9-1)

3. San Gorgonio (7-3)

4. Norte Vista (8-2)

O.C. teams in this division

Canyon (4-6)

Huntington Beach (4-6)

St. Margaret’s (8-2)

Tustin (8-2)

Analysis: Canyon, Huntington Beach and St. Margaret’s garnered at-large bids on Sunday morning and they will all hit the road this week for first-round matchups. The Oilers get to stay in the county as they head to Tustin to take on KC Carr and the Tillers double-wing offense. Huntington Beach went 4-6 on the year, but having played the likes of San Clemente, Edison, Los Alamitos and San Juan Hills, they’ll be plenty ready for the Tillers physicality and should give Tustin everything it can handle in what could be one of the better local opening round games. The Comanches take on second-seeded El Segundo, while the Tartans face North Torrance. St. Margaret’s is the most intriguing team of the bunch, being as it dominated the small schools division in recent memory and now takes a step up. The Tartans offense is averaging 45 points a game, but can it maintain that type of success moving forward? Seems like there’s more questions than answers at this point for local teams in this division.
