CHINO – Two matches are left in the regular season, and the Santa Margarita girls golf team remains undefeated after beating Trinity League rival Rosary, 193-209, on Tuesday.

Posting a perfect record, Santa Margarita sophomore Riley Edwards said, is definitely on the minds of everyone on the team.

“But we need to take each shot by shot and each match by match,” Edwards said. “God has really blessed us with this season so far. We just hope that we can play in his name and play our games and play the course.

“Our work and dedication is paying off this year, and I am so proud of the team.”

Edwards posted an even-par 36 on the Butterfield Course at El Prado Golf Course to help the No. 2 Eagles edge the Royals. She holed one birdie and needed only 16 putts to make it around the front nine and lower her scoring average this season to 37.9.

Morgan Yurosek and Kiara Boggs also broke 40 for the Eagles (12-0, 6-0), shooting 37 and 38, respectively. Yurosek had 15 putts and two birides. Chayse Gomez led the Royals (7-4, 3-3) by carding a 38.

If the Eagles beat Mater Dei on Thursday on the South Course at Coto de Caza Country Club, they will clinch their first Trinity League championship since 2009. Mater Dei has finished first in league the past five seasons.

“That (the championship) is everyone’s goal, and it would be really big for our team, and a big confidence booster,” Edwards said. “I feel blessed … blessed to be here and on this team.”
