PLACENTIA – Usually when a school starts competing in a new sport, growing pains often come along the way.

That hasn’t been the case for Valencia’s girls lacrosse team.

The Tigers, who adopted lacrosse as a sport last year, have had an abundance of success on the field this season.

Valencia stands at 11-5 after defeating Newport Harbor, 8-7, on Thursday. Most of the players on the team didn’t begin playing lacrosse until last year, or play it as a secondary sport.

The Tigers have a star on their team, too, as Jenna Fogliasso is one of the top scorers in Orange County.

“I didn’t know what to expect (this season),” Fogliasso said. “We’re doing pretty good, so I’m kind of proud of that. I’ve been having a lot of fun.”

Valencia will finish the regular season Thursday against Yorba Linda.
