Centennial of Corona coach Matt Logan confirmed tonight that the Huskies will play without standout junior running back JJ Taylor in their second-round matchup with Mater Dei in the Pac-5 playoffs.

Taylor had surgery Thursday to remove his appendix, which had become inflamed due to appendicitis earlier in the week.

The junior, who has rushed  for 1,657 yards and 27 touchdowns this season, didn’t feel well Monday and had to be excused from practice by Logan on Wednesday.

Logan said junior Sammonte Bonner, who has 186 yards and two touchdowns on 43 carries this season, will start in Taylor’s place.

“It’s next man up for us,” Logan said. “The way we practice, anyway, (the backups) get a lot of reps, so they’ll be ready.”
