Brea Olinda junior Austin Tamagno has been selected the Gatorade state boys cross country runner of the year.

Tamagno’s season full of accomplishments was highlighted by him winning the CIF State Division 3 individual title and finishing fifth at the Foot Locker National Championships.

He also broke the course record at Mt. San Antonio College.

“What sets Austin apart from other runners is his belief in doing the extraordinary,” Wildcats coach Jeremy Mattern said. “He sets extremely high goals and shows no fear in pursuing them with a full heart.”

Tamagno is the county’s first boys cross county runner to receive the Gatorade honor and he’s now a finalist for the national award, which will be announced later this month.
