SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO – Unbeaten Saddleback Valley Christian found itself trailing late, but Cade Henjum’s 30-yard touchdown pass to Caleb Ward with 53 seconds left helped the Warriors outlast crosstown rival Capistrano Valley Christian, 14-10, in a San Joaquin League game Friday night at San Juan Hills High.

SVC (5-0, 1-0) was led by running backs Charlie Morris (94 yards) and David Molina (84 yards), who gained the bulk of their yards after halftime. SVC started the game-winning drive with approximately six minutes left and facing a 10-7 deficit.

Early in the game each team’s defense was nearly impenetrable, allowing for only a field goal to be scored before halftime.

The SVC offense seemed to get back on track right away in the second half, putting together a four-play scoring drive on its first possession.

Running back Kci Thompson rushed for 122 yards to pace CVC (3-2, 0-1), but SVC’s defense was able to stop him when it needed to most, including some critical fourth-down conversion attempts.

SVC will look to keep its undefeated season alive when it faces Webb (4-2, 1-0) next Saturday, Oct. 8.
