SANTA ANA – Sunny Hills continued its perfect start to the season with a 36-7 nonleague victory over Saddleback on Thursday night at Segerstrom.

Sunny Hills (4-0) did what it does best: run the ball. The Lancers had 450 yards rushing, led by Joe Ha, who capped the evening with a 75-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter which made it 36-0.

Ha, who also had a 27-yard scoring run in the third quarter, rushed for 208 yards on 15 carries.

Lancer coach Jon Caffrey said one of his longtime assistants told him it’s the first time in at least 20 years Sunny Hills has been 4-0.

“We’re happy with that. We’re playing a good team in Los Amigos (next week) and we haven’t won a homecoming for these seniors since they’ve been here, so we’re excited to get the opportunity to play for 5-0,” Caffrey said.

Sunny Hills opened strong in the first quarter with scores on its first two possessions.

On the Lancers’ opening drive, Jason Critser scampered 17 yards for a score. Ha ran in for the 2-point conversion.

On its next possession, quarterback Malcolm Dixon broke loose for a 54-yard touchdown and with Ha’s 2-point run, Sunny Hills held a 16-0 lead.

Saddleback (1-3) got on the scoreboard when quarterback Johnny Rojas connected with Bryan Salcido on a 13-yard TD pass with 18 seconds remaining in the game.

Daniel Porras led the Roadrunners, rushing for 79 yards on 14 carries.
