Because we love rankings, and because everyone has an opinion, we asked several of our OCVarsity reporters to give us their rankings and opinions of the county’s top student sections for boys basketball.

Here are Brian Whitehead’s top three (and some of this other favorites):

1. SERVITE: Listen. It’s “The Asylum”. The chasm between Servite and other student sections is shrinking. But it still exists. “The Asylum” draws a raucous, capacity throng despite 1. being an all-boys school and 2. having an enrollment of only 920 students. Canyon, the No. 2 student section on this list, is co-ed, with an enrollment of 2,400. Oh, and before Servite home games, they clear out an entire section of the gym for these kids. Plus, their basketball crowd is their soccer crowd, their wrestling crowd and their volleyball crowd. When you begin a student section in Orange County, you begin it with the Asylum as your blueprint. Long live the king.

2. CANYON: Canyon printed out a fathead with my face on it and held it up during a game I was covering, so big shouts to Canyon. “The Tribe” will forever have my heart. No student section in Orange County promotes itself quite like the Tribe, and it’s a hilarious follow on Twitter. (“Where dey at doe?” is an all-timer.) Between its various gimmicks, chants and social media presence, Canyon’s student section is nipping at Servite’s heels. Tribe vs. Asylum is a fun debate in 2015, a debate we weren’t having a year ago. That’s progress, and something to be proud of, Canyon.

3. SONORA: More so perhaps than any other team in Orange County, Sonora depends on its student section – “The Jungle” – for juice. Josh Rodriguez, Christian Rhodes and Ben Rico are walking heat checks, and when they’re hitting outside shots, the Jungle lives up to its nickname. Plus, those kids sang “You’re not gonna make it!” during a free throw to the beat of “We’re not gonna take it” by Twisted Sister. That song came out in 1984. The kids in Sonora’s student section wouldn’t be born for another 15 years. Get outta here.

Whitehead’s other favorites: Yorba Linda, El Dorado, Sunny Hills.
