Recently-crowned national record holder Ella Eastin of Crean Lutheran plans to race at the inaugural state swim meet Friday and Saturday in Fresno with a cut finger, said Steve Pickell, her club coach with SOCAL.

Eastin suffered the cut Sunday and received stitches but has been training with a glove, Pickell said.

“She’s going to swim,” he said of the Stanford-bound senior, who set a national private school record in the 200-yard individual medley at the CIF-SS Division 2 finals with a 1:53.90. “She’s a tough cookie.”

In other state news, Pickell said Foothill’s Spencer Kendall has scratched the meet. The scratches by Kendall and Marina’s Joseph Lastelic appear to leave the Southern Section with three entries in the 200 free – two below the section’s allotment of five swimmers per event.
