HUNTINGTON BEACH Highlights and notes from the South’s scrimmage Monday night, their final live contact before the Brea Lions Orange County All-Star Game on Thursday:

* Huntington Beach quarterback Kai Ross (Cal Poly SLO) completed a long, high-arching pass near the front corner of the end zone to El Toro wide receiver Dominic Collins. But when it comes to arm strength, Corona del Mar quarterback Luke Napolitano (San Diego) might be the winner. “He probably throws a little better than me, which is alright,” Ross said with a smile. “We’ll get past it. No hard feelings.”

Ross and Napolitano also are dangerous runners. And when it comes to that category, Ross believes his teammate also compares well. “Surprisingly athletic,” Ross said of the CdM QB. “He might be a little more elusive (than me). … Same straight-line speed (as me), I feel.”

* Santa Margarita defensive end Taylor Prenovost was disruptive and delivered one of the biggest hits. “He’s a dude,” South coach Eric Lo of Huntington Beach said.

* Trabuco Hills defensive tackle Nick Leduc also impressed.

* Fountain Valley cornerback Isaiah Davis grabbed an interception. Fountain Valley’s Jacob Church is another defensive back to watch.

* Costa Mesa linebacker Oronde Crenshaw also was disruptive in the backfield and delivered one of the biggest hits. He also showed excellent speed in his pursuits, though Mission Viejo offensive lineman Jake Arlotti nailed him on a screen play.

* Crenshaw and Edison lineman David Siliuta said they are headed to Saddleback College. Lo listed Siliuta as one of the team’s surprise standouts. “I knew he was good but I didn’t know he moved around as well as he (does),” Lo said of the two-way lineman. “And he’s a smart football player.”

* Huntington Beach receiver Tucker deCamp (hand) is out with an injury but the South showed its depth at receiver with defensive backs Jonathan LaBonty (Santa Margarita/Cal Poly SLO) and Quinton Bell (Costa Mesa) seeing time on offense during the scrimmage/practice. “We’ve got plenty of guys,” said Lo, adding Prenovost and Mission Viejo’s Zack Holland can play tight end.

* Newport Harbor wide receiver Quest Truxton showed his quickness by turning a short completion into about a 15 or 20-yard gain.

* Lo’s father, David, and Holland’s grandfather went to high school together at Ramona in Riverside.

* The South helped Lo’s son, Caden, celebrate his 7th birthday by singing to him after practice and presenting him with a signed football.
