LA HABRA – Aliso Niguel quarterback Nate Sorensen threw four touchdown passes to lead the Wolverines to a 37-13 victory over Sonora in a nonleague game Friday evening at La Habra High.

Three times in the first half the Wolverines began drives in Raiders territory and three times Sorensen took advantage of the excellent field position to build a commanding halftime lead.

“This is a huge win for us,” Sorensen said. “We needed this win to pick up our season.”

Midway through the opening quarter, Sorensen capped off an eight-play, 48-yard drive with a 17-yard TD pass to Tommy Matossian.

On the ensuing Sonora possession, the Raiders punter mishandled a snap and Christian Hovey jumped on the loose ball at the Sonora 6. On the next play, Sorensen drilled his second TD pass to Matossian, giving Aliso Niguel (2-4) a 14-0 lead.

Following a short Raiders punt, the Wolverines took over at the Sonora 36. Sorensen tossed his third TD as he connected with Andre Cotton over the middle to make it 21-0.

Sonora (0-5) countered a 10-play, 70-yard scoring drive that Derek Cull capped with a 23-yard TD pass to Mateo Corros..

However, Sorensen quickly marched the Wolverines down field and completed a 12-yard touchdown pass to Tyler Jones with 4 seconds left as Aliso Niguel mounted a 27-6 halftime lead.

Sorensen completed 15 passes for 206 yards and Cotton caught 6 passes for 100 yards.

Barrett Greene (12 tackles) and Ethan Shaw (3 sacks) led the Wolverines defense.

Ryan Martinez threw a TD pass to Corros in the fourth quarter.

Ethan Cook was the workhorse for the Raiders as he rushed for 137 yards.
