Point guard K.J. Smith, the son of former NBA player Kenny Smith,  is transferring to Mater Dei from Oaks Christian of Westlake Village, Mater Dei coach Gary McKnight confirmed today.

Smith’s transfer was first reported by the Daily News.

Kenny Smith had a 10-year NBA career, played at North Carolina and is an analyst on TNT television’s NBA studio show.

K.J. Smith, 6-foot-1, will be a senior this coming school year. He started at point guard for Oaks Christian the past two seasons. Smith averaged 11 points and four assists a game this past season.

State player of the year Stanley Johnson was the Monarchs starting point guard in the 2013-14 season. Johnson is at Arizona.

Mater Dei’s 2014-15 roster includes All-CIF returnees MJ Cage and Rex Pflueger.
