Liam Cronin was dominant run at the two-day Sierra Nevada Classic.

His Servite teammates followed in his footsteps leading to another successful tournament performance.

Cronin (115) won his weight class, earned Tournament Outstanding Wrestler honors to lead the Friars to the title at the Sierra Nevada Classic.

The Friars finished with 196 points. Del Oro was second with 179.5.

“It was a good weekend all around,” Servite coach Alan Clinton. “We had a great first day, brought back nine for day two …We had to battle for team title. Del Oro wouldn’t leave us alone.”

Servite went into the final round with an 11 point lead.

“I’m pleased overall,” Clinton said. “The kids were consistent.”

That’s a good description of Cronin. Cronin didn’t allow an offensive point to be scored against him.

He won two matches by fall, one by technical fall and two by major decision, including 9-0 in the finals against Treavon Nicoley of Cleveland.

“He had a great tournament against very high caliber competition,” Clinton said of Cronin.

This is the second consecutive title at SNC for Cronin.

Marcos Polanco (106), Troy Madrigal (145) and Parker Saltzman (195) finished third. Angel Cordova was fourth at 160 and Cortez Murguia was eighth at 220 pounds.

El Dorado’s Angel Verduzco finished fifth at 182 pounds.

Next up for Servite: Trinity League dual vs. Orange Lutheran, Jan. 5; Peoria (Arizona) Tournament, Jan. 8-9
