Servite wins state championship on last-second field goal
The Friars take the Division II title after losing a big lead.
CARSON - After three weeks of late-in-the-game dramatics, it looked as if Servite was going to get a night off tonight.
But Rocklin put the Friars back to work in the CIF State Division II bowl championship.
Rocklin erased 20-point deficit in the middle of the third quarter to tie the score in the fourth quarter.
But just they did in their run to the Pac-5 Division title, the Friars emerged with the victory.
Nicholas Echeverry kicked a 23-yard field goal on the final play to lift Servite past Rocklin, 33-30, at Home Depot Center.
The kick came after an interception by Servite's Jordan James with 1:51 left. The Friars (14-1) got the ball back after losing a fumble near Rocklin's goal line.
