OCVarsity’s season preview for 2016:
ANAHEIM COLONISTS
Coach: Lanny Booher
Last season: 4-7 overall, 2-3 league
Scouting report: The Colonists might have the most experienced roster in the league. Twelve starters return – six each on offense and defense – and there are 16 seniors penciled into the starting lineup. But they have a first-year starter at quarterback, Jesse Ornels, who appeared in one game last season and attempted one pass. All-league running back Raymond Serna will lead the offense. He had 517 all-purpose yards last season. On defense, the Colonists return two players who were among the team leaders in tackles – defensive end Ricardo Godinez and linebacker Adrian Serna. Godinez (5-11, 190) posted 51 tackles last year, and Serna (6-2, 215) added 61.
Bottom line: The Colonists have talent on both sides of the ball, but it will be hard for them to compete with the high-powered offenses at Santa Ana Valley and Katella.
Players to watch: Adrian Serna, MLB, Jr.; Jorge Diaz, SS, Jr.; Richard Sanchez, WR, Sr.; Raymond Serna, RB, Sr.
