SANTA ANA – Segerstrom scored on five of its eight drives and capitalized on a combined 233 yards from Kishon Allen, Julian Vaglienty and Angel Lopez to maintain its perfect record in defeating Loara, 35-14, in a Golden West League matchup on Friday night.

The Jaguars (8-0, 3-0) extended their regular-season winning streak to 13 games and have won 14 consecutive at home (counting the postseason).

Marcos Avalos’ two carries (runs of 4 and 3 yards in the third and fourth quarter, respectively) helped Segerstrom secure the victory after starting the closing half with a 28-14 advantage. Avalos also went 6-for-11 passing for 67 yards.

A 3-yard run from junior Angel Lopez with 2:09 left before halftime gave the Jaguars their largest lead of the first half, 21-7, concluding a nine-play drive that lasted 3:46. Lopez had scored earlier on a 1-yarder 3:28 into the first quarter.

Boogie Augustine then completed back-to-back passes on the Saxons’ ensuing series, which ended on a 37-yard pass to Omar Paniagua, cutting their deficit to 21-14 with 1:46 to play in the second. Augustine connected on 10 of 18 passes with an interception for 116 yards.

Qyren Macias’ 4-yard rush put the Jaguars ahead, 14-7, 2:16 into the second quarter to cap an 11-play, 62-yard march that lasted 3:37.

Loara (1-7, 0-3) tied the game at 7-7 on a 7-yard pass from Augustine to Pedro Zamora in the first with 1:27 left. Zamora finished with five catches for 76 yards.

Loara’s Jiggy Mendoza rushed for a game-high 129 yards.

Segerstrom’s defense created havoc, including an interception by Denilson Santamaria less than a minute into the game and a fumble recovery by J.C. Caravez.

The Jaguars have taken six consecutive meetings against the Saxons (1-7, 0-3) dating to Nov. 12, 2010.

Loara will visit Westminster on Oct. 28 while Segerstrom will take on against Santa Ana at Santa Ana Stadium on Oct. 28.
