SANTA ANA – Segerstrom’s football team knew a win against Ocean View would give it a chance to play for the Golden West League title in its regular-season finale against Westminster, and Coach Mike Macerenka’s team was already looking ahead to that after taking care of business in Friday night’s 38-14 victory at home.

“Our goal all year was to play Week 10 for the league championship, so now we are there,” Maceranka said. “But we have a big task ahead of us.”

Abel Diaz ran for 214 yards and two touchdowns in Friday’s win, as Ocean View’s defense had trouble stopping the Jaguars ground game all night. Segerstrom (6-2-1, 4-0) gained 338 yards on the ground.

Segerstom quarterback Marcos Avalos completed 5 of 11 passes for 115 yards and one touchdown with one interception.

Ocean View wide receivers had trouble holding on to passes from quarterback Blake Meyer, dropping potential first-down conversions while its offense gained 306 yards.

And Ocean View (4-5, 1-3) could not stop Segerstrom’s ferocious offense.

Segerstrom extended its lead to 28-7 when George Ortega caught a 26-yard touchdown pass from Avalos with 28 seconds left in the first half.

Jaguars wide receiver Gus Guerrero made a diving 27-yard catch to help set up a Diaz 2-yard touchdown run that pushed the lead to 35-7 in the third quarter.
