SANTA ANA – Westminster rallied from a scoreless deadlock after the game’s first 16 minutes, posting 21 consecutive points and 31-6 Golden West League victory over Segerstrom on Friday night at Segerstrom High.

The Lions (5-2, 2-0), ranked third in the CIF Southern Division poll, had 415 yards in offense, with quarterbacks Lucas Goode and Matt Dinh combining for 271 yards passing and three TDs. Westminster’s defense also was quite good, holding Segerstrom (1-6, 0-2) to just 30 yards total offense, one first down and forcing 11 punts.

Beyond the stats, the Jaguars remained within hailing distance of the Lions by recovering five fumbles and intercepting a pass. Westminster had sustained drives in their first three possessions, but two lost fumbles and a successful Segerstrom goal-line stand kept the game without a score until the Lions struck in the second quarter.

Goode connected with tight end Daniel White for 12 yards and a touchdown with 9:34 left in the first half. Five minutes later, Humberto Maciel scored on a 22-yard TD run.

A 10-yard TD pass from Dinh to Gabriel Sanchez gave the Lions a 21-0 lead.
