Spring notes: Lacrosse semifinalists know each other well
The semifinals of the U.S. Lacrosse playoffs will have a familiar feel for the teams involved.
In the girls game Wednesday at 5 p.m., top-seeded Mater Dei (19-0) faces third-seeded Foothill (13-8). The teams met April 28, with Mater Dei winning 12-9. The Knights are the defending county and Southern Section champions.
Top-seeded Corona del Mar (21-2) takes on third-seeded St. Margaret’s (14-8) in the boys final Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. The teams met March 29, with the Sea Kings edging the Tartans, 8-7.
They also met in the county semifinals last season with St. Margaret’s winning 8-6.
Both semifinal games will be at Trabuco Hills High.
Woodbridge junior Joseph Chun posted a 2-under-par 70 in the final round of the ClubCorp Mission Hills Desert Junior on Sunday to win the 36-hole AJGA tournament in Rancho Mirage by two strokes.
He opened with a 4-under-par 68 on the 7,095-yard Dinah Shore Tournament Course at Mission Hills Country Club carded a 6-under-par 138, making him the only player in the field to break 140.
Chun, who helped the Warriors win the Pacific Coast League boys golf championship last week, holed nine birdies and one eagle during the AJGA tournament.
