Kickoff 2011: Woodbridge starting lineup
Last season record: 6-5-1 overall, 2-2-1 in Pacific Coast League (tied for third place).
Postseason: 2010, lost to Garden Grove in second round of the CIF-SS Southern Division playoffs, 65-43.
Coach: Rick Gibson (26th year)
Home stadium: Irvine High
Outlook: Woodbridge had quite a year last season, but the Warriors have quite a few question marks entering this season. Woodbridge loses quarterback Max Neser, who passed for 1,973 yards and rushed for 1,002 yards. Also gone are running back Jalen Craver, who rushed for 1,775 yards on 210 carries and receiver Nick Gstrein, who hauled in 50 catches for 618 yards and 10 touchdowns. Gstrein signed with UNLV. The quarterback duties will be handled by Brendan Beresford and Matt Callahan, who played on the JV team last year. The Warriors top player is expected to be senior Kyle Kelley, who will play tight end and defensive end. Kelley had 73 solo tackles and 19 sacks and was named first team all-league last year. Outside linebacker Blake Rusick, who led the Warriors with 100 tackles and four forced fumbles last year, is also back on defense. Woodbridge is more experienced on defense with seven starters back but has just four returning on offense. Gibson likes the team’s defensive speed and quickness.
Factoid: The Warriors will need to replace 4,000 yards of offense from the graduated players.
School record: Not available
