Laguna Hills senior Will Sedgwick broke his right thumb and will be out 6-8 weeks, Hawks coach Bruce Ingalls said.
Sedgwick, OCVarsity’s second-ranked linebacker, fell awkwardly after blocking a punt in practice. Sedgwick also plays on the offensive line.
Sedgwick missed six games to a neck injury he suffered in a car accident last season.
“Anytime you lose a player the caliber and skill of a Will Sedgwick, it definitely affects your lineup,” said Ingalls. “But somebody has to step up and take care of business until we get Will back.”
Laguna Hills hosts Ingelwood in its season opener Friday.
