OCVarsity’s season preview for 2016:
SADDLEBACK VALLEY CHRISTIAN WARRIORS
Coach: Brendan Chambers
Last season: 15-1 overall, 5-0 league
Scouting report: Last season was a landmark one for the Warriors, who won their 10th straight San Joaquin League title, their first CIF-SS East Valley Division title and reached the state championship game. Remaining to keep the ship steady is senior quarterback Cade Henjum, who was excellent last season. He completed 57.1 percent of his passes, and had 38 passing touchdowns. Sophomore Issac Moreno will get the majority of the touches at running back. He ran for 102 yards and a touchdown in SVC’s wins in the CIF State regionals. The secondary will be the defensive strength with senior Marc Audet and juniors Jack Deavila and Jackson Greene. The linebackers are an inexperienced group.
Bottom line: It’s hard to imagine SVC producing exactly like it did last season, but the Warriors should still be favorites for the league title.
Players to watch: Cade Henjum, QB, Sr.; Marc Audet, DB/WR, Sr.; Issac Moreno, RB/LB, So.; Jackson Greene, DB, Jr.; Jack Deavila, DB, Jr.; Cole Etchells, WR/LB, Sr.
