OCVarsity’s season preview for 2016:
EL DORADO GOLDEN HAWKS
Coach: Zack LaMonda
Last season: 1-10 overall, 1-2 league
Scouting report: Crazy as it sounds, there were some positives to take away from a season that technically ended without a win on the field. Jack Strouse saw the field as a sophomore signal caller, completed 50 percent of his passes, and now makes the jump to full-time starter this season. He’ll be joined by seven additional returners on offense, including the team’s top two receivers, Connor Leech and Chase Duffin. Another seven starters are back on defense too, and that familiarity will be crucial in the Golden Hawks making strides after allowing 36 points a game last fall.
Bottom line: The Golden Hawks are headed in the right direction. They might not be able to challenge Brea Olinda atop the league standings, but are a contender to finish right behind them in second.
Players to watch: Daniel Bucaro, CB, Sr.; Chase Duffin, WR, Sr.; Jordan Fulton, RB, Sr.; Connor Leech, WR, Sr.; Jack Strouse, QB, Jr.; Dylan Taylor, RB, Sr.
