OCVarsity’s preview for the 2015 season:
ESTANCIA EAGLES
Coach: Mike Bargas
Last season: 8-3 overall, 5-0 in league
Scouting report: The Eagles will attempt to defend the league title they won last season with a lot of new faces at the skill positions. The team’s top four leading rushers and receivers for 2014 are gone. Starting quarterback Connor Brown was named the league’s co-MVP last season after he passed for 1,580 yards and 11 touchdowns. Jordan Balcazar, DJ Davis, Wilmer Sanchez, Tyler Ross and Konrad O’Daly are among the players that will try to step in and contribute at running back or receiver. The Eagles have a strong senior class returning, but depth will be a concern.
Bottom line: With Brown returning and with the senior group behind him, the Eagles should have enough to hold off the other teams and keep the league title.
Players to watch: Jordan Balcazar, RB/CB, Jr.; Connor Brown, QB, Sr.; DJ Davis, OLB/RB, Sr.; Jason Jones, DE, Sr; Juan Lozada, OG/DE, Sr.
