OCVarsity preview for the 2015 season:
CALVARY CHAPEL EAGLES
Coach: Chris Cox
Last season: 5-6 overall, 3-2 in league
Scouting report: The league has several returning quarterbacks back this season. Calvary Chapel’s Patrick Glasgow probably had the best numbers from that group last year. He completed 244 of 378 passes (64.6 percent) for 2,665 yards with 21 touchdowns and 13 interceptions. The offense returns the top three rushers from last season and three of the top three receivers, led by Luke Thompson. Scoring points likely won’t be a problem for the Eagles. But can they get enough stops on defense? Safety Josh Debernarde is a tackling machine (177 total tackles in 2014), and Matt Tanios (140) will be important to the defense.
Bottom line: The Eagles need to shore up a defense that allowed at least 30 points six times last season. If that’s done, they could have the makings of a team that contends for the league title.
Players to watch: Josh Debernarde, WR/FS, Sr.; Patrick Glasgow, QB, Sr.; Braeden Stack, RB/CB, Sr.; Matthew Tanios, MLB, Sr.; Luke Thompson, WR/SS, Sr.
