1. Mater Dei (11-2)

Monarchs return to a CIF championship football game in 10 years after shutting out St. Bonaventure, 21-0, in a Pac-5 semifinal.

2. Mission Viejo (11-1)

Diablos lost only one game this season, but it was to a team that advanced to the Pac-5 championship game, Long Beach Poly.

3. Santa Margarita (9-3)

Eagles overcame injuries, defections to finish third in the ultra-tough Trinity League and advance to Pac-5 second round.

4. Edison (12-1)

Chargers' defense leads the charge as usual in 22-16 victory over Foothill in Southwest Division semifinal.

Next: Vs. Villa Park at Angel Stadium, Friday.

5. El Toro (9-2)

Chargers lost to two higher-ranked teams, Mission Viejo in a South Coast League game and Santa Margarita in a Pac-5 playoff game.

6. Tesoro (7-4)

Titans played a challenging nonleague schedule, but we wish they would renew the "Rumble at the Ranch" series with Santa Margarita.

7. Villa Park (12-1)

Spartans beat Tustin, 35-34, in a Southwest Division final to advance to a CIF championship football game for first time since well before this year's players were born, 1977.

8. Tustin (12-1)

Usually an early two-touchdown lead means a Tillers victory, but they could not stop Villa Park's comeback in 35-34 loss in Southwest semifinal.
