2009-10 girls soccer player of the year
RYLEE BAISDEN
ESPERANZA, SO.
After missing all of last season with an injury, Baisden developed into one of the county's most dynamic players this season, leading the Aztecs with 18 goals and six assists. She also proved her worth in the postseason, scoring five goals, including two game-winners in the CIF Southern California Regionals.
SHELBY CHAMBERS-GARCIA
SAN CLEMENTE, SR.
Clutch and tenacious, the Michigan-bound senior was one of the leading forces behind a Tritons team that won the South Coast League title for the third consecutive season and advanced to the Division 1 title games of both the CIF-SS and the CIF Southern California Regionals for the second consecutive season. She registered a team-high 13 goals.
FRANNIE COXE
SAN CLEMENTE, JR.
In addition to helping San Clemente post an undefeated league record and advance to the finals of the CIF-SS and CIF Southern California Regionals, the junior center midfielder continued to show the form that has made her one of the county's most versatile and skilled players. Coxe tallied six goals and a county-best 18 assists, recording two or more assists on four occasions this season.
NICOLE DEPUY
MATER DEI, SR.
With strong ball-handling and passing skills, the senior midfielder was the field general for the Monarchs, scoring seven goals and dishing out six assists, tied for team-high honors. The Trinity League's co-Offensive Player of the Year will be taking her talents to UC Santa Barbara next fall.
KATIE GALLANES
ESPERANZA, SR.
The senior defender was one of the leaders behind the Aztecs' run to an undefeated season and Division 1 titles in both the CIF-SS and CIF Southern California Regionals. Her efforts on the defensive end helped the Aztecs post shutouts in six of the team's eight playoff matches. She will attend Pepperdine next year.
EMILY GOLDSTEIN
EL TORO, SR.
A two-time all-county selection, Goldstein was once again one of the county's top all-around performers and leaders, guiding the Chargers to the Sea View League title. Her 12 goals were second best on the team and she recorded a team-high six assists. Goldstein will continue her soccer career at Iowa State next season.
ASHLEY KOTERO
SANTA MARGARITA, SR.
One of the senior leaders for the Trinity League-champion Eagles, Kotero's multi-faceted talents helped Santa Margarita advance all the way to the CIF-SS Division 1 semifinals. Kotero scored five goals this season, while helping facilitate the Eagles' offensive attack. Selected as the Trinity League's co-Offensive Player of the Year, Kotero will play at Auburn next year.
MELISSA LAXAMANA
ESPERANZA, SR.
One of the county's top one-on-one defensive players, Laxamana was a key cog for the undefeated Aztecs throughout their championship run. Her stellar efforts on the defensive end helped Esperanza hold its opponent scoreless in 21 of the team's 31 matches this season.
JORDAN MARADA
CAPISTRANO VALLEY, SR.
The senior midfielder was the leader of a Capistrano Valley team that finished second in the South Coast and advanced to the quarterfinals of the CIF-SS Division 1 playoffs. Marada tallied a team-best 13 goals, while her 16 assists were the second most in the county this season. She will take her game to St. Mary's College in Moraga in the fall.
TAWNI MARTINO
BECKMAN, SR.
One of the county's most dynamic scoring forwards over the past two seasons, Martino elevated her game and that of her team to another level this season. She recorded a county-best 32 goals and produced nine games of two or more goals. Martino's efforts helped guide the Patriots to the Pacific Coast League title, and appearances in both the Division 2 CIF-SS and CIF Southern California Regional championships.
KATHLEEN MESSINGER
ALISO NIGUEL, SR.
Messinger was the county standard of excellence at the goalie position, earning all-county honors for the second consecutive year with her ability to make every type of save imaginable. The Cal-bound senior was the unquestioned leader on the field leader for a youthful Wolverines team that held 14 opponents scoreless, finished third in the South Coast League, and earned a berth in the CIF-SS Division 1 playoff.

ESPERANZA
In his ninth season at Esperanza, King led the team to the most successful season in the program's history. The Aztecs posted a 27-0-4 record, winning the Sunset League title for the fourth time under King. Esperanza capped their season by winning the CIF-SS Division 1 and the CIF Southern California Regional Division 1 championships, both for the first time in school history. "To be named with some of the great coaches from the past that have been honored by the Orange County Register is definitely an honor and privilege," said King.
