HUNTINGTON BEACH – Ocean View’s football team is having a historic season.

The Seahawks remained perfect in league this year by defeating Segerstrom, 27-6, on Thursday night in a Golden West League game at Ocean View High.

Ocean View (7-2, 4-0) locked down a playoff berth with the win. The Seahawks will be seeking their first Golden West League title when they play Westminster next week in the regular-season finale.

“We’ve never won a Golden West League title. Never,” said Seahawks coach Luis Nunez. “To be in that position next week, and for it to be against our rivals, it’s going to be special for our kids.”

It has been quite a turnaround for Ocean View. The Seahawks went 1-9 last year. Now, they are going back to the playoffs for the first time since 2011.

Thursday’s win marks the first time the Seahawks have had four wins in the Golden West League in a single season.

It was a big night for Ocean View’s Tocchetti brothers, with each topping the 100-yard mark. Cory Tocchetti provided the explosive plays. He had three catches for 101 yards and a touchdown. He also rushed for a score.

Greg Tocchetti rushed 14 times for 102 yards.

Blake Meyer threw for 218 yards and two touchdowns. He did most of his work early, as both of his touchdowns came in the first quarter.

Cory Tocchetti cashed in a 54-yard catch-and-run for the first score, and Hector Calderon got open on a seam route to produce Meyer’s second touchdown.

The six points scored by Segerstrom matched a season low for the Jaguars (2-7, 1-3). Alejandro Valdez, Chandler Willis and David Alani led the Seahawks’ defensive effort.

Gus Tinajero rushed for a 45-yard touchdown on a fake punt in the first quarter, but Segerstrom could not repeat its fourth-down success.

Tinajero led the Jaguars attack with 80 rushing yards. Joseph Moran added 65 receiving yards.
