Outlook: Mater Dei looks to cap a perfect season with a victory in the Southern Section final. Mater Dei has averaged 14 goals a game during the playoffs. Mater Dei scored five in the second half to overcome a 4-1 deficit and defeat Foothill, 6-5, in the Orange County final Wednesday. Mackenzie Wallevand scored three goals, including the tying and eventual winning goal. She was selected MVP of the game. Wallevand isn’t the only Monarchs player Oak Park needs to watch today. Grace Houser, Lauren Gonzales and Maddi Hooks have each scored at least 50 goals this season. When the two teams met April 21, Mater Dei won, 16-12. Oak Park defeated Redondo Union, 13-8, in the Los Angeles final Wednesday. It was the Eagles’ fourth consecutive trip to the final, but their first victory. Oak Park has 10 seniors who have played in all four L.A. finals. Senior Megan Shorts has scored 60 goals this season, and Ania Brown has scored 49. A team from the Los Angeles division hasn’t won the Southern Section girls title.
