The potential was always there for the Servite boys golf team, even if its scores haven’t always reflected it this season.

On Wednesday, all five Friars who figured into the final score posted a score in the 30s at Arroyo Trabuco Golf Club to help No.1 Servite finish 1-over par as a team and post a 181-205 Trinity League victory against JSerra.

“We are all pretty good players,” junior Matt Wilson said. “It was just a matter of us clicking at the right time. Now, we will just see how far we can go (in the postseason).”

If the Friars (10-0, 7-0) keep this up, a return to the CIF State Championship might be on their June schedule.

Wilson medaled for the fourth time this season Wednesday, shooting a 3-under 33. He had an eagle and a birdie during his bogey-free round on the front nine. Jack Lurz led the Lions with a 4-over 40.

“I have been playing pretty well. I have been striking it (the ball) pretty well lately,” Wilson said. “That makes it easier to score out there for sure.”

Brandon Braeme added an even-par 36 for Servite, which posted its lowest score on a par-36 course this season.

But Wilson still believes the best is yet to come.

“There’s definitely still some more room for improvement,” Wilson said. “We still haven’t posted our best nine-hole or 18-hole score.”

And he said that after the Friars won the prestigious Champions Inviatational last weekend in Indio.

“I think if we clean up around the greens, I think we can go lower for sure.
