ANAHEIM – Savanna scored on the opening kickoff and junior running back Sammy Delgadillo added three more first-half touchdowns as the Rebels took control early and pounded Bolsa Grande, 49-7, in a nonleague game Friday at Glover Stadium.

Delgadillo finished with 15 carries for 204 yards rushing, and the defense for Savanna (1-1) helped the dominating effort with two interceptions and two sacks in the first half.

The Rebels did not take long to get the scoring started, as sophomore Carlos Hernandez returned the opening kickoff for a touchdown, and by halftime Savanna was ahead, 40-0.

The Matadors (0-3) were held to 48 total yards in the first half.

Delgadillo was all the offense Savanna needed in the first half, as he carried the ball 11 times for 173 yards and three touchdowns in the first half.

Hernandez added another touchdown before halftime to give Savanna a 40-0 lead.

Savanna attempted just one pass in the first half.

Senior running back Matt Abundis also had a successful night on the ground for Savanna, carrying the ball six times for 67 yards and two touchdowns, one in each half.

He scampered 41 yards for a touchdown in the third quarter for the Rebels’ final touchdown.

Bolsa Grande’s touchdown came in the fourth quarter. Junior defensive lineman Bryan Solaica recovered a fumble and returned it 30 yards for a score.
