OCVarsity’s season preview for 2016:

SAVANNA REBELS

Coach: Roger Whalen

Last season: 3-7 overall, 1-4 league

Scouting report: The Rebels are a young team that, according to Coach Roger Whalen, lacks size and depth. Three first-year varsity players are penciled into the lineup at important positions. Quarterback Ryley Smith will be under center, handing off to running backs Sam and Sly Delgadillo. All three players are juniors. playing in the first varsity season. Whalen thinks the team’s work ethic and team speed should keep the Rebels competitive. Look for defensive tackle Ivan Lopez and wide receiver Jose Ledezma to play key roles after earning all-league honors last season.

Bottom line: No matter how dedicated the Rebels are on the practice field, their lack of game experience will make it hard for them compete for a spot among the top three in the standings.
