Magnolia senior football player Laquan Pleas died early Monday morning from cardiac arrest, according to Athletic Director Rick Penn.

“He was a totally healthy kid. No (health) issues, ran track and did football,” football coach Ryan Olson said. “He was a solid kid, a quality individual.”

Pleas was a first-team All-Orange League selection and led the league in interceptions with five this past season.

Pleas attended Cypress and Savanna high schools, where he also played football, before transferring to Magnolia for his senior year. He planned to attend Golden West College next fall, according to Olson.

Friends of the Pleas family created an account at GoFundMe.com to raise funds to support the family. To make donations, visit www.gofundme.com/shq8jk .

There will also be a fundraiser car wash today, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., in the Del Taco parking lot at 3181 W. Lincoln Ave., Anaheim.

“(Other coaches) have reached out to us, let us know that they’re spreading the word about (the car wash),” Olson said. “I’m hoping we get a little sunshine (today) and that we get a good turnout for this.”
