SWIMMING

Two of the most storied swim invitationals in Orange County collide Saturday.

The finals of the Foothill Swim Games are scheduled for 10 a.m. while the Mission Viejo Invitational begins its prelims-finals format at 9 a.m. at the Marguerite Recreation Center.

The Mission Viejo Invitational also features diving, starting with the 11-dive girls event at 10 a.m.

Yes, just call it the regular-season’s version of Super Saturday.

Crean Lutheran’s record-setting girls swim team attended both meets last season but picked the Foothill Swim Games this week because of scheduling.

The school’s prom is Friday night, so girls chose the finals-only format at Foothill on Saturday, Saints coach Craig Brown said.

The Foothill Swim Games’ prelims are Thursday (girls) and Friday (boys) at 3 p.m.

Crean Lutheran’s Ella Eastin will race the 200-yard individual medley and 100 breaststroke at Foothill, while Lindsey Engel will compete in the 50 and 100 freestyles. Engel holds the county records in both events while Eastin owns the standard in the 200 IM.

BOYS GOLF

Five of the top teams in the county – Mater Dei, Corona del Mar, Marina, Servite and JSerra – will head to Indio this weekend to compete in one of the most prestigious boys golf tournaments in the nation.

The 54-hole Champions Invitational will be held Friday and Saturday at the Golf Club at Terra Lago, which once played host to the Skin’s Game.

The tournament has an impressive list of past individual champions that includes current PGA Tour players Rickie Fowler, Jordan Speith and Patrick Cantlay (Servite, UCLA).

Long Beach Wilson won the team competition last year. …

Corona del Mar senior Hale Furey finished with a 1-over par 145 on the Fazio Course at Stonebriar Country Club to finish tied for eighth in the boys division at the Under Armour/Hunter Mahan Championship.

Troy freshman and All-County first-team selection Beth Lillie placed 15th, posting rounds of 75 and 78 on the par-72 Fazio Course.
